A New Champion 🏆

Updated: Sep 13

The Caister Candelabra took on a fresh approach this year with a significant change to its format. The traditional 36-hole competition was replaced by a straight 18-hole shootout. Our heartfelt thanks go to Electrical Testing for their unwavering support in making this event possible.

The new format proved to be quite convenient, especially with a major football match scheduled for the evening. While the change was a lucky coincidence, it did not influence the decision to alter the format. Despite some nostalgia for the 36-hole format, which still holds favour with some players, the 18-hole competition received positive feedback and retained its competitive edge.

The tournament kicked off just before 8:00 AM with 43 players ready to take on the course. The weather, for the most part, was cooperative, although a strong westerly wind added an extra challenge. The high rough terrain was particularly daunting for higher handicappers, demanding precision and strategy throughout the day. Despite these conditions, most players managed to avoid non-returns (NRs).

The competition was fierce, with prizes awarded to the top five players in both scratch and handicap categories. Greg Jarvis emerged as the champion in both sections, shooting an impressive 68 off a handicap of 4. His stellar performance earned him well-deserved victories and a significant share of the prize vouchers.
